Raise your hand if you’ve ever solved a problem during 5 o’clock traffic? While reading a book? Taking a shower? Running a marathon or what feels like one?

Last month, I did. I replaced my 9 to 5 with a photography course at Istituto Marangoni Miami. Call it a rut? A creative block? Whatever. I desperately needed three weeks to work through my love/hate relationship with the camera, an issue that’s plagued me since June, and take my mind off my day-to-day work to be completely immersed in creating something different every day. I started the course with a list of general questions I thought were key: “How should I edit my photos?” “What’s the best trick for this angle?” “Lighting?” Instead, I walked out with a changed perspective. One that actually fueled a new creative direction.

(Stay tuned for 2019)

Today I thought I’d share my top 5 takeaways from the course. Even if you’re not a photographer, I think anyone can take something from these next couple of lines.

Life As I Know It

Style Bungalow wears Alexis

DRESS: Alexis, sold out – similar style here/SANDALS: Alexandre Birman/EARRINGS: Devon Leigh, but I also love Jennifer Behr, Lizzie Fortunato and Lele Sadoughi jewelry/BAG: (℅) Pamela Munson

Fashion photography overload.

My head’s still spinning from the three week photography course I took at Istituto Marangoni Miami: photo editing, content planning and shooting models all the while wrestling my normal day-to-day. Even with the nerve-wrecking moments + late nights working, I couldn’t be more thankful to have stepped back for three weeks. The course added so much value to the passion work I get to do… every single day. I haven’t felt this fulfilled in quite some time…

Let’s hit rewind.

Reiss All About it

SWEATER, BLOUSE, SKIRT: (℅) Reiss/HEELS: old, similar here

I can’t believe it’s that time of the year! We’re swapping out pumpkin spice for peppermint mocha, like how did time fly by so quickly?! When I think about winter in Florida, I have to actually remind myself that it’s winter. Blame it on the warm temps that fluctuate between 90s to low 60s on a “cold” day. I love it. But you guys know that!

Double the Sweater Love

SWEATER (cream, red), BLOUSE (similar here), JEANS: (℅) Banana Republic/LOAFERS (similar here)/GLASSES: old

Wow, where has the time and month gone?

I’m in the middle of Miami’s buzzy scenes and sounds, wrapping up my last few days in the most intensive photography course I’ve ever taken (but so rewarding) before I head off to Houston for a much needed break over the holidays.

My mom told me the other day, “it’s so cold here!” Which has me thinking of being wrapped up in comfy sweaters all day, curled up sipping hot tea with zero to-do’s (with the exception of my sister’s wedding). Doesn’t sound so bad, right? (happy sigh)

Wild for Monnier Frères

BLOUSE, JEANS, BAG, EARRINGS, HEELS: (old) affordable; splurge

I remember it like it was yesterday.

Ten years ago (before my blog), I was a starving ballerina. I transitioned into PR, which then moved into a few freelance jobs just to barely cover my expenses. Shopping for clothing and accessories took a backseat (like way in the back), but it was always top of mind. Designers like Oscar de la Renta, Valentino and Jimmy Choo were a few favorites to window shop and add to my years of wish lists. Yes, the daydream game was strong…

Lover of L’Occitane

Stephanie Hill of The Style Bungalow talks about L'Occitane RESET serum.

FEATURING: Immortelle Reset Oil-in Serum, Moisture Prep, Water Cleanser

As you may have seen on my Instagram Stories, the travels are back and the meetings/events are in full swing. Bouncing from South Florida back to the around-the-clock lifestyle in New York City, its relentless rhythm of “pushing your limits” has rubbed off on me. Side note: don’t get me wrong, it’s super fun and exhilarating, but it’s also taken a toll on my skin.

Confession: I don’t even realize it until I look in the mirror and wonder if I could just hit a RESET button I’d take care of this differently.

Truth is… I (you) can.

Pantene 14 Day Challenge

Change. It’s inevitable.

Whether it’s time, weather, season, personal or general – life’s pretty much full of them.

But change can be a very good thing. Like seeing one bad hair day change to more great hair days. Mhm, it’s time to flip the script! Since I’ve been using my (affordable!) favorite, Pantene, for years I realize I can count on them to counter these changes; keeping things relevant and personal when it comes to hair (it me, because they get me).

Oh My Monnier Frères!

BLOUSE, SKIRT, HEELS (old Alexandre Birman, but I also love this pair for a slightly lower heel!)

BURBERRY TOTE, EARRINGS: (℅) MONNIER Frères

Last week I talked about the variety of color blocking and the fun ways I like styling it this fall. But here’s the thing, as much as I love bright colors, timeless neutrals also hold a special place in my heart (and closet!). So while we rotate into the new season it’s easy for me to put things in neutral (like automatically). Why? Because seasonless and sleekness are def. great things to keep in your wardrobe, too. Name one good reason you wouldn’t – I’ll wait.

Still waiting.

(Oh, and don’t let the word “neutral” and its blah undertones mislead you…)
