When I think of the days I struggled to make ends meet, juggling five (or more, depending on the year) freelance jobs and needing to have a lot of my priorities in place, I was cornered into quickly learning how to save and style my outfits (it was also around the same time I started my fashion blog). And because I was working with a tight budget, that meant becoming an expert at making things look more expensive than they actually were (see here). Even to this day, I’ll apply these concepts (especially with a wedding in mind) and I wanted to share my best tip to focus on: accessories. Specifically, the right handbags, which helps elevate an entire outfit…every time. With some hard-earned patience and a trained eye over the years…I’ve rounded up 7 handbags from Brahmin that definitely look more expensive than they actually are (including a new one I’ve added to my closet)!

1. Lane Topsail

I love the specific shape in this one. There’s something to be said about how unique shapes, like the Lane Topsail, can create an expensive look as it embodies a sleek and timeless essence (meant to be carried for years). I opted for the cognac since a neutral tone can be styled with a variety of looks, yet add a pop because of its shape. Featuring a vegetable-tanned Italian hand-stained calf genuine leather and light gold hardware, it gives off that classic and casual appeal with a polished touch. 

2. Evie Melbourne

This must be one of my favorite white, top-handles in my closet! Because I wanted to add texture to the white, but keep it classic at the same time I felt that the Evie Melbourne combined my preferences perfectly. Its fresh, croc-embossed leather (high quality faux of course) and tab lock closure feels so elevated and speaks to my vintage inspiration.

3. Pipp

I also try to look for handbags that aren’t overly embellished and/or with a lot of stitching (as they can come off very inexpensive-looking), but keep an eye out for a simple, chic design like this Pipp Topsail. The structure and whiskey color of this handbag encompasses a vintage element with a modern feel. And since it’s also quite versatile and so smooth (which makes the leather even easier to clean) I’ve worn this functional option during the day and on my evenings out without a second thought.

4. Brynn

I’ll admit, I have a soft spot for the Brynn. The detailing and sophisticated silhouette of this barrel handbag has that “wear-with-everything” intention. I’m not sure if it’s the organizer pocket within or Brahmin’s signature croc-embossed leather that gets me, but I know it’s a mini-statement handbag I absolutely adore (with a luxe finish)!

5. Margo Newbury

If you look closely at the Margo Newbury, you’ll see that its lived-in leather and rich brown shade create such a smooth textured feeling (and photographs so nicely as seen here!). Plus if you don’t want to use it as a crossbody that day, it can double as a tote when you tuck in the adjustable straps – making it equally as chic. 

6. Mini Francine Melbourne 

The polished Mini Francine Melbourne is a different shape than the Brynn, but has that same type of luxury leather. It’s an everyday staple when you’re opting for a roomier handbag (for your daily essentials) that can also be worn over the shoulder! I love that its design is spacious without being chunky (perfectly suited for the workday and that happy hour downtown).

7. Carrie Crossbody Divino

My newest addition to the collection is this two-toned Carrie Crossbody Divino. Its clean lines paired with the refined Pecan Melbourne and Latte La Scala leathers create a beautiful neutral combination. I styled it as a handheld vs. crossbody today and am in love with how practical and elevated it looks. I’ve always had this rule, “if it’s not 100% classic, then I’m not buying it,” and am happy to partner with a brand like Brahmin that exemplifies this in their designs.
