A good lip color can accent your makeup and act as an accessory to your look. From sophisticated shades of pink to flattering nudes, there’s a wide range of lipsticks to choose from.

Thanks to the makeup experts at Lancôme in Bloomingdale’s, I learned more about how to keep your pout fresh and fancy, and what shades work best for my hair color and skin tone.

Preparation:

Be sure to apply a hydrating lip balm, like this one from Lancôme, before applying your lipstick. This will help prevent the lip color from absorbing into your lips.

Plump:

To help your pout stand out, be sure to use a lip plumper.

Line:

Use a lip liner to make your lipstick last throughout the day and to prevent feathering and bleeding. Be sure to use a shade that’s similar to your lipstick color or a clear one.

Perfect:

After you’ve applied your lip liner, apply your lipstick. You can use a brush or if you’re like me and always in a rush, directly from the tube.

Finishing touches:

For high shine, dab a hint of gloss to the center of your lips and smack together. Not only will this create the illusion of fuller lips, but also take your lip color to the next level.
