For many, fall means piling on chunky sweaters, lots of layers, cute scarves and darker colors to stay warm when the weather starts to turn. But what exactly is a South Florida fashionista supposed to do when it’s still so hot out? How do you embrace fall trends when you live in sub-tropics?

Good question. I’m a firm believer that you can still sport fall trends, but in a different way.

Start by selecting pieces that are fluid and lightweight, like this jacket and semi-sheer top from Forever 21, and pair it with a bottom that will maintain it’s shape throughout a hot day. This flirty skirt mimics the look and feel of neoprene (a fabric that’s commonly used for bathing suits), and is slightly structured, making it a great staple to have in your fall wardrobe.

Colors are important, too. Try to mix in a rich color with a neutral piece in your closet like a burgundy, navy or army green hue and voila!… your outfit will have new life for the autumn season.

Slip into a pair of ankle booties, sandals with cutouts or a stacked heel, to dress up your outfit. And opt for heavy accessories, like this necklace from Aldo and a detailed clutch.
