TRENCH, LONG SLEEVE CROP TOP, DENIM MIDI SKIRT, BOOTIES, CLUTCH, SUNNIES: (c/o) Missguided

I recently spent time in Vancouver attending a best friend’s wedding. The weather was cool (low 50’s) and rainy. I packed a few things, like a leather jacket and cardigans, but for the most part – froze the entire time I was there. I didn’t pack a good coat so I had to borrow one from my best friend. She told me that the best way to tackle the cold and rain in Vancouver was to “wear layers and a good coat,” preferably one that’s versatile and can be worn with a casual outfit or in the evening over a dress.

As soon as I got back to Florida, I examined my coat situation and quickly realized I lacked an absolute, must-have piece for both fall and winter seasons (a piece that would have saved me in Vancouver): a good neutral coat.

Yes, the chances of needing a coat in South Florida are slim but that doesn’t mean it’s going to stop me from getting one in case I travel up north this season. A coat (more specifically, a trench) is a key item for all wardrobes; a timeless piece that every adult girl needs. A good coat/trench will ensure sophistication and elegance. It’s also super cool and a great way to instantly elevate your look.

Since I’ve never owned a trench, I wanted to experiment with an affordable option first. I opted for this one by Missguided (wearing size: 0P, available in regular sizing here). It’s flattering yet functional and versatile enough for trips. I also love how it hits me mid-thigh, making it a great layering piece for above the knee skirts and dresses. Besides, short trench coats have been all the rage these past few years!

On that note, petites should avoid wearing long coats because it will drown them. Busty girls should steer clear of double-breasted coats. Three-quarter length coats are sporty and youthful. Longer coats are best for more warmth and protection from the rain. And neutral colors are safest. All in all, don’t be afraid of a good coat (talking to you my Florida girls)!

While I was at it, I threw in a long sleeve crop top with a busted denim midi skirt (love this one, too). I added ankle booties (because I needed those too) and a transparent clutch with black sunglasses. Ok, so I did a little damage. Whatever. Some call it shopping, I call it retail therapy. 😉
