One Blazer, Two Ways Pt. 1

Trust me, I’ve been there. When I first started working in PR, my salary was a joke. I BARELY made enough to eat cover my living expenses much less go shopping. The times I shopped, I bought my clothing from fast-fashion stores or from the “affordable” department at Nordstrom (you know which one I’m talking about). Never – never – never – ever designer.

I’d skip by designer and think to myself, “one day I’ll upgrade my wardrobe… hopefully by the time I’m 30.”

You don’t need to know how old I am (still in my twenties) but you should know 30 is not far. Truth be told, I feel 24. And have a petite frame so most people think I’m young. Plus, I’ve also stayed out of the sun for like three years but that’s another story. Yes, my tan is from a bottle.

Needless to say, my wardrobe has finally evolved into something great. I no longer skip by designer stores and departments (I shop them) and do it pretty regularly. But that doesn’t mean I’ve lost my savviness. Those poor PR days are still very much burned into my memory. Besides, one day you can have it all. The next day, lose it all… you never know.

So now I shop “practically” when splurging on designer. And invest in pieces that are timeless and classic so that in the event I lose it, I will at least look good.

But really. Just because you can afford to buy nicer things doesn’t mean you should blow it all. You should shop smart. I know I poke fun at being an impulsive, obsessive shopaholic (which is partially true) but at heart, I can be savvy.

This blazer from Veronica Beard, for example, is safe. It’s a classic. It’s basic enough to stand the test of time yet chic enough to wear again and again. I’ll prove its versatility later this week when I post Pt. 2 to this series.

The rest are must-have pieces to buy now and wear forever. Like my Saint Laurant tote (I carry it everywhere!). My buttery soft FRAME skinny jeans. My essential silk blouse. My sparkly Jimmy Choos. My timeless Michele watch. Stuff you can wear both day and night. Summer and winter. That’s wearable and easy for everyday styling. That’s worth every hard-earned penny you fashionistas have…

Shop today’s look from Nordstrom below. And cheers to smart shopping!
