Wearing White

DRESS, SANDALS, SILK SCARF: (c/o) Banana Republic

I’ve always lived in the south. I spent my childhood + teenage years in Houston, Texas. Then in South Florida where I danced ballet, went to college, worked, started my blog and so on. Both environments are pretty laid back with fashion rules – i.e. “the rule of wearing white.” Maybe it’s because warmer climates tend to have more leeway when it comes to white. Or maybe it’s that times have changed and there aren’t really any rules in fashion – it’s more about your style. [besides, rules are meant to be broken. If only you knew what we did to get these photos. But let’s save that for another story…]

I personally love white! I think it’s simply sophisticated.

And I don’t think you should wait until Memorial Day. Or stop wearing white after Labor Day. I think it’s totally acceptable (regardless of your city) to wear white year-round as long as you have the right fabric, silhouette, accessories, etc.

Winter whites can be fresh and unexpected during times where everyone’s wearing black. It can also be edgy [think: white slip with a chunky silver necklace] While flowy summer whites can look nice against tanned skin. Which leads me to today’s be-a-u-t-i-f-u-l look from Banana Republic

the perfect dress for a holiday getaway this summer! How dreamy is it?!

A subtle pop of color in an accessory (i.e. my yellow silk scarf tied around the handle of my bag) or a print (i.e. my polka dot sandals) can be a nice addition to wearing white. Especially in the summer.
