About a year ago, I did a blog post on work attire featuring Theory pants. If you didn’t see it, click here. I’m still getting comments and notifications from it! The response was outstanding! I quickly learned that you guys love it when I feature work looks… hence today’s look (ironically posted on a Friday).

I left my 9-5 two years ago. While my daily fashion choices have since changed, I definitely remember how it felt waking up in the morning struggling with what to wear. My goal? To look good. Not bleh. And by bleh, I mean boring i.e. white button down shirt with pants.

People would say, “Stephanie, you’re not working at Vogue! Who cares what you look like?!” I, on the other hand, felt differently. While I wasn’t working at Vogue (I worked at a small PR firm with a cramped desk and no windows), I needed to feel good everyday. If I liked my outfit, I did a good job at work. If I hated my outfit, I would think about it all day and next thing you know – it’s impacting my productivity. Perhaps this is why I’m now a fashion blogger. But that’s not the point.

When you look like you have your act together, people will assume you do. Above all, dressing well impacts your mood and happiness. And sometimes, a cute outfit might be just the confidence boost you need to walk into your boss’s office to demand a raise or SLAY that meeting in front of that one awful coworker who always puts you down in front of everyone else. #justsaying Or, look cute in the elevator for that special someone on the 12th floor.

As for that white button down? Note: it doesn’t have to boring. Maybe it’s made out of silk, like this one from Equipment via Neiman Marcus Boca Raton, so you can transition it from work to weekends. Or your pants have a fun slit on the side of the leg so they move when you walk. Or maybe you add great accessories. Whatever! Why limit your work attire to something boring and bland? Have fun with it.

Now, this look, isn’t exactly work appropriate. BUT separately, each piece could easily work for work.

  • I agree with dressing well on a daily basis. When I was in university, I unfortunately prioritized my comfort over the impression I made with my wardrobe. Now, I try to strike a balance between comfortable materials and styles while also looking polished. Looking put together, to me, is way more than shallowly impressing people – which I think you agree. It’s about respecting yourself and the effort you put into expressing yourself the way you want to!
