Yellow from the Tropics

Is it me, or is every major clothing brand using yellow in their collections lately? First it was pink. Now yellow. I dig both. But lately, I’m really vibin’ with shade. Maybe it’s because it reminds me of sunshine, fresh lemonade, scrambled eggs, bumblebees, yummy mustard, flowers… or maybe it’s because it stands out? Regardless, the color yellow tends to be bright and bold. So I’m all in.

Case in point, today’s look from Ann Taylor.

I grabbed this dress off the rack thinking the color would look terrible against my skin tone. But it was in my size (rare; I wear a 00P – fortunately, Ann Taylor caters to petite ladies like me!). Plus, the color stood out among a sea of neutrals (tan, white, navy – cue: summertime) so I tried it on… and to my surprise, both the dress and the marigold color looked amazing!

It made me happy. It made me feel like dancing!

Pros say most people can easily wear yellow because it works as a striking comparison to their features (skin tone, eye color, hair color). Think: redhead + yellow sweater. It works.

Which is true! So don’t be intimidated by it. Try it.

Quick tip: When wearing yellow, let one accessory pop (my scarf). Downplay the rest (bag and sandals) to prevent overdoing it!

Happy Saturday!
