From runway to street style, New York Fashion Week is a time that lights up the entire city and… rest of the “fashion” world. A time where sidewalks become an actual runway filled with bold colors, plaid on plaid and a strong shoe game to name a few. Everything was fun, dramatic, tailored and wonderfully feminine.
Again, I couldn’t help but rewind and remember the past few years when I came to New York Fashion Week. Let’s say every year has been so different… yet the same. Though, I wasn’t crashing on my friend’s couch in Spanish Harlem, sharing a three bedroom (TINY) Airbnb with 6 girls or running on a McDonald’s diet… the thrill, sleepless nights of editing and exhaustion was still very present, but worth every moment. Also, I have to say, thank you UberEats for existing (#praise) and delivering (literally) all my meals to the Airbnb I stayed at in Greenwich. #notsponsored
This year was even more special to me for a couple of reasons. I intentionally planned to meet and see some of my favorite designers, brands and old friends. While the rest of the time, I wanted to create content that captured the essence and aesthetics of New York that really charmed me (and have been pinned on my “Favorites” board for the past year!). I’m talking about the incredible Sezane L’Appartement to crossing streets and holding for taxis – now combine it with New York and Fashion Week traffic while dodging rain at the same time. I can’t say there was ever a dull moment, but that’s the adrenaline rush I believe we all come for in New York. You can’t help but move with its momentum…
My favorite moment?
Honestly, there were quite a few, but if I had to choose just one… I’d probably say the fitting I had with Carolina Herrera and the incredible fashion show that followed. Talking about it with you still gives me the chills as I remember sitting down and waiting to walk in (there was so much buzz yet it felt so still)… while in the same room with some of the most extraordinary people I’ve admired since I can even remember! So surreal. Then, seeing those bold colors, striking combinations, fit-flare silhouettes and of course the timeless classics down the runway – Wes Gordon’s debut did not disappoint! Talk about a girl’s dream come true (and literally, my Fashion Week dream come true).
From hopping around to one meeting after another and one fashion show to the next or catching a lunch break at the Instagram/Facebook headquarters (with all the chaos and exhilaration at hand) Fashion Week has become an inspirational journey for me. It’s been a place of encouragement and an invite to a slew of imaginative thinking and styling. As I witness the different odes to cultures, tributes to legends come alive through fashion – I’ve learned Fashion Week transcends even the fashion. Between the designers, you and I – we really are making a statement and it’s all about how you wear it.
So on that note, keep scrolling for all my Fashion Week looks!
